Wiki Wiki Web, also known as Ward's Wiki or simply Wiki Wiki? or Wiki (with a capital 'W'), is the first wiki. Written in Perl, it accompanies the Portland Pattern Repository (PPR) on c2.com and is located at c2.com/cgi/wiki. It contains various topics and discussions about software engineering. The term wiki that is used to refer to other similar groups of modifiable Web pages, e.g. Wikipedia, came from this original wiki.

Introduction:

titlw

Wx Wiki Server is a Wiki Server based on Wiki:Eddies Wiki? 1.0, with the features from 1.1 beta and Micheal's mods thrown in afterwards, and adds a mountain of features and bugfixes that make it perform more like usemod. Currently, it supports nearly all of what usemod does - see it at http://www.wikiserver.org , 'wiki'. It also, as of 1.5.8, is available for osx and mandrake linux 10.1.

Get the latest version (1.5.9) at http://sourceforge.net/projects/wxprojects. Or, as usual (with a bit of delay) on http://www.wikiserver.org.

Even though wxWikiServer is technically a personal wiki, it has been used at wikiserver.org for a while now and versions 1.5.1 and on are very stable, so they can used for an internet wiki just as well.

In fact, you can see a demonstration of it as an internet wiki here -

Reviews/Mentions

I googled myself (well, wx) and look what I found -

Named best windows wiki server. 9.5 out of 10.

WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!

Discusses a lot of things about it.

Features

If you want to contribute to the feature list, feel free :). There are a _lot_ of features in wxWikiServer....

Some features:

A simple list (as opposed to the more elaborate use of Headings):

Use Mod? features

As far as I know, wxWikiServer supports all usemod features in the 1.0 distribution.... anybody know if I'm missing any? -- Ryan Norton

Table of Contents

1.5.9 now supports table of contents like Meat Ball? does (although it is quite beta).

Just make sure your headings are like the on this page, put the toc html tag before or after the text - it doesn't matter :).

Nested includes of Tables

Bi-directional Footnotes

A very simple-to-use markup that consists of an Integer value enclosed in [] (square brackets,, that appears at various points throughout a page and once at the start of a new line. Its effect is to create hyperlinks from where-ever the references appear to the first (ideally only) target location in the file. These are 'bi-directional links, since clicking on the target 'named anchor' that is generated, cause a jump back to the first occurance of the reference.

Since the range of the integers appears to be unconstrained, it is possible to create relatively useful ranges. For example:

Versions:

Version 1.5.10: 2/19/05

  1. Fixed a bug where it would crash if you went to recentchanges or dumpallpages
  2. Fixed a bug where it would print junk after the table of contents
  3. Got rid of a lot of useless debugging info after it printed the table of contents

Version 1.5.9: 2/19/05

  1. Fixed an edit conflict resolution bug
  2. Fixed crashing from the taskbar when restarting
  3. Added support for wiki syntax is Use Mod?-style tables
  4. Added preliminary table of contents support (Its the same as Meat Ball?!!!)

Version 1.5.8: 2/17/05

  1. Fixed edit page redirection - for good this time
  2. Fixed double-clicking with the default page template
  3. Added a favicon.ico by default
  4. Fixed display of anonymous user's ips

Version 1.5.7: 2/07/05

  1. Added the much requested feature to restart the server, which reloads the config files w/o having to shut down and start the server up manually again. Also works remotely via the Admin Login page!
  2. Change Log page in distribution version corrected.

Version 1.5.3:

Current version www.wikiserver.org and other wikis use. Stable as a rock, but missing some user conveniences that later 1.5 releases provide.

Bugs and Feature Requests

See and post to http://www.wikiserver.org:25852/KnownBugs for bugs and http://www.wikiserver.org:25852/FeatureRequests for feature requests.
